The Colts had an amazing season, going 14-0 before rookie head coach Jim Caldwell sacrificed a potential perfect season to "rest the starters" in anticipation of the playoffs and a Super Bowl run. After beating the upstart New York Jets the Colts prepare to play in their second Super Bowl of the decade. If they win, Colts fans will wonder if 2009 could have been the first perfect Championship season; if they lose, resting the starters won't have mattered much.
Called the best Quarterback in NFL history, Colts' Peyton Manning has already won a 4th MVP award this year. Rather than simply running plays called from off the field, Manning's no huddle offense allows him to both call plays and adjust offensive players at the line of scrimmage, throwing defenses off and racking up huge offensive numbers. Louisiana resident and Manning’s father, Archie, use to play for the Saints – who will he be rooting for, son or former team?
National Football Conference Champs, The New Orleans Saints are playing in their first Super Bowl. After beating the legendary Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings in sudden-death overtime, and only a few years after Hurricane Katrina and having to play their home games in Texas, fans are hoping that Drew Brees and company can bring home a championship to a city consumed with "WHO DAT?" fever. QB Drew "More Accurate than Olympic Archers" Brees has led the high-powered Saints offense to a team best 13-3 2009 regular season record.
Will Colts’ Defensive End Dwight Freeney play this weekend? Originally called a sprained ankle, it's been revealed that Freeney has torn a ligament. He's listed as questionable, and sources close to the Colts have both expressed hope that Freeney will play and prepared a "No-Freeney" defensive plan. If Freeney, an integral part of the Colts defense against the Saints, doesn't play, the Saints will have a much easier time winning their first Super Bowl against the perennial contenders, the Colts.
